COUNCIL workers in Barnsley are gearing up for winter to help keep the town moving during spells of bad weather.

It has 14 winter service vehicles and various other pieces of equipment capable of clearing footways on standby across the borough for the next 16 weeks.

It also has record levels of rock salt available this year – over 11,700 tonnes – to spread on the town’s road network.

The council is urging motorists to plan ahead.
