Gaz from Geordie Shore and comedian Dapper Laughs are among the latest people to donate to a fundraising appeal for Doncaster woman, Laurie Jay Balfour, who is currently fighting for her life after a 15 stone gas cannister fell on her while she was on holiday in Greece.

Laurie's accident took place on Wednesday night at a club in Zante, and she is currently in a coma fighting for her life at a hospital in Athens.

After news of Laurie's tragic story went viral earlier this week, Gary 'Gaz' Beadle of Geordie Shore fame has offered to pay for accomodation for the 24-year-old's parents, Philip and Deana, while they are in Greece.

Dapper Laughs, who is one of Laurie's favourite comedians, has also pledged £500 to the fundraising appeal after being contacted by Laurie's friend, Nikki Hutchinson.

In a video posted on social media that has been viewed more than 289,000 times, the comedian explained that he was donating the money because Laurie's story had 'broken his heart'.

He said: "As many of you know, I lost my father recently and I can only imagine what her family and everyone are going through right now.

"It's for a good cause and it really touched me.

"She's a beautiful girl, and I feel blessed than I'm able to help.

"God bless Laurie, and my thoughts are with her friends and family.

"When she wakes up please tell her to get in contact with me because she's a sweetheart and I'll take her for a drink."

Laurie's colleagues at Polypipe, where she works with her mum Deana, are also believed to have raised several thousand pounds for the 24-year-old.

Angela Smeaton, Customer Services Manager said: “Laurie is very well thought of by everyone at Polypipe, and as soon as staff became aware of her accident we wanted to raise funds to support her family.

"Her friends and colleagues have been making cash donations at a number of donation points throughout our Doncaster

“We are working with the family to get updates on Laurie and to see where our funds may be best used. We’re still asking staff for donations at present, and will be passing across all

money raised to the family at an appropriate time.

“Laurie is in the thoughts and prayers of everyone at Polypipe. We hope she makes a speedy recovery and is back with us soon.”

The fundraising page set up on Facebook by friends Lauren Brown and Becci Tomlinson has also raised over £5,000, and the kind-hearted fundraisers are also planning an event on September 4 to bring in even more money.
