Gay event 'to alter attitudes'

DONCASTER'S deputy mayor Margaret Ward has heralded this weekend's Doncaster gay pride event as a symbol of changing attitudes.

Doncaster Market Place is playing host to the first ever South Yorkshire Gay and Transgender Pride event on Sunday.

Deputy Coun Ward said: “Doncaster Council is proud to play host to the first ever South Yorkshire Pride Event.

Support given by Doncaster people and organisations clearly shows how attitudes are positively developing, and that there is widespread recognition for the contribution that gay and transgender people make to our society.”

Running from 12noon to 6pm, it will feature colourful performers and activities including stilt walkers and children’s rides.

It will centre around a stage in the market area where the Reece Lightning travelling stage show will entertain with a mix of singing, dancing and variety performances.

More than 30 stalls will make up a ‘Rainbow Mini-Market’, where groups and agencies will display their work promoting equality and inclusion.
