Gavin Strachan explains why Doncaster Rovers will not lack motivation during run-in

Sat 13th in the table, Rovers appear to be in ‘no man’s land’ - although pessimists may argue they still need one more win to be absolutely sure of staying up.

But ahead of today’s home clash with Oxford United, who are four points clear of the drop zone and definitely not safe yet, Strachan said Rovers still have plenty to play for.

“We want to get as many points on the board as we can and we realise the importance of momentum going into next season,” he said.

“And, on many different levels, players should be extremeley motivated for the next few games because we do want to progress, we do want to get better season upon season and we’re certainly monitoring players to make sure we think they can go where we want to go.”

He added: “What I like about these players is that there is a real desire to keep the shirt.

“There’s been many a time when we’ve had to field off questions from players this season asking ‘why are not we playing?’.

“And we prefer that, rather than people accepting that they’re not playing.

“There is a real competition for places and I think the culture at the club won’t allow a comfy end to the season.”

Luke McCullough and Mathieu Baudry could return to the side after missing Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Bury.
