Gavin heads stadium team

KEEPMOAT Stadium troubleshooter Gavin Baldwin admits there are challenges to be faced at the venue after he was drafted in to take the helm.

Mr Baldwin, a former Doncaster rugby union star, has been seconded to the stadium from his post as boss at the Doncaster Dome to run the 32 million facility after the resignation of previous chief executive Andy Nicholl.

Mr Nicholl left in the wake of the revelation the stadium had been caught selling alcohol to under 18s for the third time. It had also emerged it had lost almost 1 million since it first opened.

Mr Baldwin said: “I’ll be working with the Stadium Management Company’s board, management team and staff to assess the current situation and there are undoubtedly challenges to be faced.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone here to help the venue realise its full potential as a well-loved and well-used community stadium.”

The stadium was opened in January as home to Doncaster Rovers and Doncaster rugby league club.

It also hosted two high-profile music shows, featuring Bryan Adams and McFly, during the summer, which lost money.
