Gary Hooper to sign for Sheffield Wednesday today
Gary Hooper will sign a three-and-a-half-year deal with Sheffield Wednesday today - and Barry Bannan can't wait to link up with the in-form striker again.
Hooper returned to Norwich City following the expiry of his loan deal on Sunday, having bagged six goals in his final six appearances for the Owls.
Wednesday have reached an agreement with the Canaries on a fee, believed to be around £3m, and Hooper could be available for tomorrow’s clash at Reading.
Bannan said: “It’s massive to get Gary back. It’ll be great to play with him for longer. In the last couple of weeks when he has come back to his match fitness, he has been brilliant for us and won games as well.
“We have got all sorts of strikers here at the club at the minute and a different mix.
“What Hoops would bring is important goals at important times.
“I think if you want to make the play-offs and go up in this league, you need a striker that is going to score the goals like he got at the weekend.”
Wednesday, though, have quashed reports linking them with an audacious £10m-plus move for Blackburn Rovers forward Jordan Rhodes.
Boss Carlos Carvalhal said: “Do you think we have £10m-12 million to pay for a striker? It doesn’t make any sense. He’s a player who is completely out of our budget.
“We are doing everything with sense. We don’t have one of the biggest budgets of the Championship. There are teams who have invested more money than us. Everything we do is with good sense and economical.”
