Gardening firms asked to submit plans for transformation of Barnsley Hospice grounds

Gardening companies are being asked to put forward plans on how to transform the grounds of Barnsley Hospice.

The inpatient unit garden is lawned and has a patio, but staff and volunteers want ut turned into a more tranquil and relaxing place for patients and their families.

The gardens are maintained by volunteers.

Companies interested in designing the new garden should submit a proposal by the end of March.

Site visits can be arranged beforehand.

The hope is for the new harden to be unveiled at the end of June.

The work will be paid for with a grant awarded to Barnsley Hospice specifically for the garden redevelopment project.

Bev Hewitt, inpatient unit manager said: “For many patients the garden is very important.

“All of our patient rooms have doors wide enough to take a bed out into the garden if they are unable to walk.

“Being outside, especially in the summer, can be very relaxing and therapeutic and we want all of our patients to be able to benefit from this.”
