Gang armed with a piece of wood attack couple on South Yorkshire street

The man and woman, aged 30 and 32, were walking along Cemetry Road in Rotherham when they were approached by the gang.

The gang of five men and two women, who are all thought to be in their late teens to early 20s, then assaulted the couple.

The gang were armed with a piece of wood and a length of plastic, causing minor injuries.

Both the man and the woman required hospital treatment following the reported attack which happened sometime beween 12.45am and 1.30am on Saturday.

One of the men involved is described as wearing grey tracksuit bottoms with his top open showing his chest while one of the women is said to have been wearing heavy make-up and had blonde hair.
