A NEW human resources policy has been agreed for council staff who want to volunteer at the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012.

Barnsley Council created the policy to provide consistent and fair practice in granting staff time off for volunteering and guidance about requesting the time off.

Coun Alan Gardiner, cabinet spokesperson for corporate services, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for individuals, a unique experience from which to learn and develop.

“Managers should be supportive of any requests from employees who wish to volunteer for the Games.”
