Gale is back in from the cold after being banned by British boxing

Sheffield-based gold medal winner Natasha Gale has been welcomed back into the Great Britain fold after being suspended over 'unacceptable conduct' involving her team-mates.

The middleweight, 30, was banned from defending her European title by GB Boxing bosses because of behaviour issues at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.

She’d been eliminated in her first fight and was later left out of the seven-strong British squad for this month’s European event, in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Her title was won by Dutch rival Nouchka Fontijn, with Welsh boxer Lauren Price a bronze medallist.

A month ago, GB Boxing performance director Rob McCracken revealed Gale, who lives in the Abbeydale area, was at the centre of a disciplinary investigation following the Aussie competition.

“Natasha had a difficult Commonwealth Games and it’s around conduct and interacting with her colleagues.

It probably reached the point where it was deemed unacceptable by the programme” he said.

Today a spokesman for GB Boxing told The Star: “The disciplinary process for Natasha is complete and she is now back in training.

“She is part of the GB Boxing squad and the Women’s World Championships, taking place in November (in India) later this year.”

Leeds-born Gale is only the second British woman (after Leeds’ double Olympic champion Nicola Adams) to win a European boxing title.

She is a three times National ABA Champion.
