Furnishers close after 75 years

SHEFFIELD furnishing store Hancock & Lant is to close.

The family-run business has traded for more than 75 years as a supplier of leading brand contemporary designer furniture, carpets and beds from its premises in Queens Road and Lady’s Bridge.

A receptionist confirmed the store was to close and cease trading “within the next few days”. No-one from the management team was available for comment.

Arson appeal

OFFICERS investigating an arson at an address in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield are appealing for information.

No-one was hurt in the blaze at 8.50am yesterday on Sicey Lane, but an extensive amount of damage was caused to the property. It is believed a male was seen in the area at the time. He was white, around 5ft 7ins tall, of average build, with shoulder length black hair and a moustache. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball cap. Thefts warning

POLICE officers are urging people to report anyone they see prowling around cars or properties following a rise in break-ins and thefts on side streets off Middlewood Road, Hillsborough.

Quartet hurt

FOUR casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance following a two-car collision in Barlow. The vehicles crashed on Johnny Gate just before 10pm on Wednesday.
