Funeral takes place for well-known and popular Doncaster barber

The funeral has taken place of a well-known and popular Doncaster barber who owned a salon in the town for more than 50 years.

Roy Slater, who was affectionately known as Slasher, took one last visit to his salon in Everingham Road, Cantley this morning as his funeral cortege passed en route to Rose Hill Crematorium.

Mr Slater was formerly the owner of Slaters hairdressers and barbers, owning the salon for more than half a century.

He died on July 20 at the age of 89.

His granddaughter Jane Kerridge said: "We as a family are heartbroken but have taken great comfort in reading some of the Cantley community's comments on their memories of my granddad.

"He has always been a legend and will be dearly missed by not only us but the wider community that had the pleasure of knowing him throughout the years."
