Funds '˜immediately available' for Darren Ferguson, say Doncaster Rovers

Funds have been made available immediately to Darren Ferguson to start building a squad capable of getting out of League Two, Doncaster Rovers have said in a statement.

The statement appears to put to bed any lingering doubt or speculation about the future of manager Darren Ferguson following relegation from League One. It also suggests that the board and Ferguson are singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to improving the club’s youth set-up.

“Funds will be made immediately available for Darren Ferguson to build a first team playing squad that can push for an automatic promotion place,” said the statement.

“Darren met with the Board [on Tuesday] to discuss the players he would like as part of his squad and how the club will have a focus on an immediate return to the English Football League One whilst implementing an improved youth and academy strategy.

“The board will support Darren with immediate recruitment requirements and are hoping to bring the squad together if at all possible before pre season training commences. The main focus however over the Summer will be to develop the best playing squad and philosophy to ensure an immediate return to EFL1.

“The Board and Darren are both passionate about the youth and academy strategy and will therefore implement short, mid and long term plans to develop our future Doncaster Rovers players. Darren will reveal more about his passion for this over the next few weeks and this is something that we are all immensely excited about.”
