Fundraisers bare all for polar bears in naked dash at Doncaster's Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Dozens of kind-hearted folk dared to bare all as part of a naked charity dash through Doncaster's Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

The Bare all for Polar Bears event, which took place on August 19, saw runners take part in a half-mile naked dash around the Branton-based park in a bid to boost its innovative Project Polar campaign.

A group of over 40 hardy fundraisers were sponsored to get starkers in the short streak through the popular tourist attraction, which is home to a wide variety of animals including polar bears Pixel, Victor, Nobby and Nissan. The event was the second annual Bare All For Polar Bears event, and trustee of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation, Cheryl Williams said she hoped it would bring around £10,000 in for the park’s conservation efforts.

She said: “It was a great bit of fun with a serious message. We had 43 runners last year, this year there were even more.

“It is managed very respectfully and everyone enjoyed it last year and asked to run it again this year. The funds raised on Friday are vital to our cause to help polar bears in the wild. It certainly highlighted the efforts in a unique way.”

YWPF has been at the forefront of conservation for the species and works closely with Polar Bears International on research and fund-raising projects.

The park’s 10-acre Polar Reserve is one of the most advanced enclosures in the world.
