ROCKETING fuel bills proved to be a hot topic at a debate in Sheffield.

Residents grilled politicians including MP Clive Betts and Coun Joe Oteen, along with environmental groups, at the ‘Energy We Can All Afford’ event.

Sheffield’s Friends of the Earth invited members of the public to The Circle in Rockingham Lane to discuss energy bills, green jobs and climate chance.

Maureen Edwards, co-ordinator of Sheffield Friends of the Earth, said: “Clive Betts has agreed to back an amendment to the Energy Bill so it includes a target to clean up our electricity by 2030 – this will give renewable energy firms the confidence to invest.”
