From Dalian to Doncaster

The visitors were from Hongxinhai School in Dalian, North East China, the partner school of Kingfisher Primary School, They also shared aspects of Chinese culture that included an impressive morning exercise routine that pupils here could join in with.

Teacher Elaine Salisbury said: “During their stay with us, the students spent time in every year group and participated in a range of activities celebrating British culture, such as baking, cricket, the national anthem, sewing, British music and science investigations linked to Tim Peake.”

Party members stayed at the homes of Kingfisher staff overnight and enjoyed an evening of tenpin bowling, which was a new experience for most, added Ms Salisbury.

A meeting also took place between the Chinese party and Doncaster Council representatives including the civic Mayor and Mayoress.

The schools are keen to foster their links further in the future. Mrs. Liu, Headteacher of Hongxinhai and Mr Yu who leads the International Department hope to organise more visits to South Yorkshire.

Over the last three years, four Kingfisher Primary School teachers have visited Hongxinhai school to share educational practice with them. The secondment of two teachers has also helped to develop an understanding of Chinese culture and language.

Hongxinhai School has many unique aspects, including functional and exploration classrooms, with smaller than average class sizes and a multilingual teaching style.
