Harvey Fest is raising money to fund a youth hub

Friends and family of tragically-killed teen Harvey Willgoose got together in gorgeous bank holiday weather to remember the Sheffield schoolboy and raise funds for a youth club in his honour.

Stalls including cakes and crafts, jewellery, hook a duck, inflatable axe throwing and face painting were brought on-board at the community event - held at the Hog’s Head pub, Hackenthorpe.

Two large banners bearing the Blades logo and “forever 15” beside a photo of Harvey’s smiling face were unfurled outside the pub to mark the location.

Harvey’s Hub, a youth club giving children a space to be themselves, was an idea first mooted last year by his parents as they work to ensure no family goes through the trauma they had to experience.

Caroline wants to acquire a permanent base for the club, adding: “We’ve got quite a lot of funding now so we’re ready to go, it’s just finding a venue.”

When he was only 15 years old, Harvey was fatally stabbed during his lunch break at All Saints School by fellow pupil Mohammed Umar Khan, prompting an ongoing crusade by his family to tackle knife crime.

Umar was ultimately sentenced to a minimum of 16 years behind bars after a trial at Sheffield Crown Court in October, 2025.

Today’s fundraiser (Sunday) came about after the manager of the Hog’s Head offered to hold the event in Harvey’s memory - which may become an annual one.

Speaking about the event, she said: “Harvey loved everyone getting together - festivals, music, drink - even though he only ever had lemonade.

“And Harvey’s Hub is just trying to get somewhere for kids to socialise again, somewhere for kids to go - we need to get our kids socialising.

“We get a lot from this, today we’re up there but tomorrow when we’re finished we’ll be down here. Things like this keep us going.”
