Fresh injury blow hits jinxed Sheffield Eagles roster

Half-back Simon Brown looks set for a spell in the treatment room as Sheffield Eagles are again hit by more injury misfortune.

With Eagles finally removing some senior figures off the casualty list, they were dealt a double blow during Sunday’s victory over Rochdale with Brown and dual-registration ace James Bentley limping off.

Director Mark Aston said: “Simon has hurt his knee. I think someone came in and caught him down at the bottom of his leg so he is a bit sore.

“Looking at it now it would appear that he will be out for a few weeks but we will wait while it has been given a full assessment.”

“It looks like a groin for James,” Aston said.

There looks to be better news for Bentley’s Saints stablemate Jake Spedding who looks close to a return, and if he comes through training this week Aston could well be handed his services for Sunday’s hosting of Halifax.

Meanwhile, Aston has again reiterated he will have no qualms of using some of his less experienced operators to plug the gaps, adding: “Again we have some kids waiting who we didn’t use at Rochdale, the likes of Blake Broadbent and Max Garcia and I am also desperate to see young Paddy Burns out there so over the next week or so we’ll have a look at them for contention.”
