Diners frozen with their forks aloft, martial artists stuck mid-grapple and shoppers halted as they browse the shelves - these are just some of the striking scenes created by Sheffielders participating in the internet craze.

Even the law has got in on the act, with South Yorkshire Police sharing a video of student officers in the midst of making an arrest during training.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, the mannequin challenge is like a grown-up game of musical statues in which people rigidly hold their stance - often in amusing poses - while someone walks among them filming.

The idea reportedly began life at a US high school but spread like wildfire, with Hillary Clinton, Cristiano Ronaldo and Adele among a plethora of stars to have appeared in films shared on social media.

Here are some of the best we've found which have been dong the rounds in Sheffield:

* Otto's Restaurant, Sharrow Vale Road: Diners were happy to wait a little bit longer for their food as they gamely posed for this impressive effort

* Excel Martial Arts, Holbrook Industrial Estate: Arms are locked around necks and fists about to slam into cheeks in this all-action video, or at least as all-action as a mannequin challenge can be

* Singh's Premier convenience store, Fairleigh: A shopper riding in a trolley and someone posing for a selfie are among the poses being struck in this video, featuring staff and their families

* South Yorkshire Police Specials: A suspect is detained on the floor, while another has some handcuffs applied in this video filmed during a break in a training session
