A NEW scheme has been launched to help Sheffield’s elderly people stay in their own homes.
The Sheffield Stay Put home improvement agency offers to carry out free small repairs and minor adaptations to the homes of elderly and vulnerable people.
The organisation, part of Yorkshire Housing and funded by Sheffield Council, aims to help residents keep their independence and stay living in their own home safely.
Chris Wade, Yorkshire Housing head of foundation, said: “The new service is great news for Sheffield people and it will also support the NHS by helping to prevent hundreds of accidents, trips and falls.
“The cost of installing a grab rail is a few pounds and when you compare this to the many thousands that a hip replacement costs including the weeks spent in pain and away from home it makes sense to act early and have this kind of service freely available.”
