Free energy saving bulbs handed out

FREE energy saving light bulbs will be dished out next week by Doncaster Council to mark National Energy Saving Week.

The authority is encouraging communities to make a collective effort to save energy during the week taking place from Monday.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “a community a day” with an emphasis on the community’s power in encouraging residents to do their bit to save energy.

The council has brought together representatives from key community groups within the borough to raise awareness around the subject of climate change and the services available to residents to save energy.

During the week council staff will be offering energy advice to residents and free energy saving light bulbs to start them on their way.

Residents will be asked to commit to saving 20 per cent of their energy use and work towards becoming energy efficient. Advice will be available on Tuesday and Friday outside Clock Corner and next Saturday at the borough’s B&Q.

Deputy Mayor Margaret Ward, said: “It is very pleasing communities are coming together to save energy and reduce their bills. I would encourage residents to come along to our advice sessions to get them on their way to becoming energy efficient.”
