A statement said: “A number of New College students recently attended a trip to Northern Italy.

“We have been advised by Public Health England that the area visited as part of this trip was not in one of the lockdown areas. As such, we have been advised that students and staff that attended this trip and who do not show any symptoms associated with coronavirus are safe to continue attending college.

“However, any students that attended this trip and do demonstrate any of the symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) in the next 14 days must not attend college, should self-isolate and should seek immediate medical advice by telephoning 111.

“Students should then contact college to provide an update about the medical advice they have received and so that an assessment can be made as to when it is appropriate to return to college.”

Italy has reported more than 300 cases and 11 deaths.
