Four youths have been issued with temporary banning orders after setting off fireworks in a Sheffield park this evening.

The Sheffield South West Local Policing team said they had issued the 48-hour dispersal notices to the group after they set fireworks off in Broadfield Park, off Abbeydale Road.

A police spokesman said: "Please ask your children about where they are going and don't let them get involved."

The move comes after South Yorkshire Police launched its 'Dark Nights' campaign last week, focusing on anti-social behaviour and firework safety during the autumn period.

Superintendent Colin McFarlane, force lead for anti-social behaviour, said: “Across the county, thousands of people will be celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night over the coming weeks.

“While many enjoy the festivities and stay safe, the celebrations can lead to some anti-social behaviour and arson incidents from a minority of people. We want everyone taking part in celebrations to enjoy themselves, but to do safely and responsibly - for themselves and for others.”
