A gas cylinder has exploded at a home in Barnsley, hospitalising four people.

The fire brigade was called to Elizabeth Street, Goldthorpe, just before 2pm.

It is thought a liquid propane gas cylinder had exploded in the back garden of a house.

Firefighters from Dearne gave first aid to four people, who were later taken to hospital suffering from burns. None of their injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

A 50 metre cordon had been in place around the property but it was lifted late this afternoon.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing.
