Four men arrested in £1.5million tax fraud investigation

Four people have been arrested in Sheffield as part of a suspected £1.5million tax credits fraud.

Around 60 officers from HM Revenue and Customs supported by South Yorkshire Police, searched three addresses and a vehicle yesterday.

A 20-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 33-year-old man and a 44-year-old man, all from Sheffield, were arrested.

Stuart Taylor, assistant director of criminal nvestigation at HMRC, said: “This is a long-running investigation into the alleged systematic abuse of the tax credits system.

“HMRC will not tolerate this type of criminality.”
