Four flood warnings now in place across Sheffield as week of rain falls in 12 hours

But while a Met Office rain warning is due to remain in place until 6am on Tuesday morning, forecasters said at 7.30pm on Monday evening that the worst of the wet weather has now passed Sheffield.

A Met Office spokesman said around one inch of rain has fallen in Sheffield in the past 12 hours, with the worst-affected area in the region being Langsett, where 1.5 inches (38mm) has fallen.

The normal average monthly rainfall for Yorkshire in November is 3.5 inches (90mm).

The spokesman said while further rain is expected on Tuesday, it will be 'nowhere near the kind of disruptive amounts of rainfall we have seen today'.

The Environment Agency currently has four flood warnings in place for Sheffield and three lower-level flood alerts.

The warnings are in place for:

*River Sheaf and Porter Brook at Leadmill in Sheffield, affecting Shoreham Street, Leadmill Street, Matilda Lane, Mortimer Street, Leadmill Road, Suffolk Road and Fornham Street.

*River Sheaf and Porter Brook from Granville Square to Commercial Street, affecting Leadmill Road, Suffolk Road, Fornham Street, Turner Street, Sheaf Street, Harmer Lane, Pond Hill and Midland Railway Station.

*River Sheaf at Priestley Street, Duchess Street and Sheaf Gardens, affecting the area bounded by Charlotte Road, Farm Road and St Mary's Road as far as Granville Square.

*River Sheaf at Coniston Road, Norton Hammer, affecting Rydal Road, Langdale Road, Little London Road, Coniston Road and Arnside Road.

Flood alerts are in place for:

*River Don Upper Catchment, affecting Penistone to Kelham Island in Sheffield

*River Sheaf and Porter Brook, affecting River Sheaf, Porter Brook and their tributaries

*Blackburn Brook Catchment, affecting High Green to Meadowhall, including Charlton Brook, Ecclesfield Brook and Whitley Brook.
