Foster carers to hit the road in Rotherham to hand out information

Foster carers are hitting the road in Rotherham this week to try to recruit more people to offer a home to children in the town.

Rotherham Council’s Fostering Team has organised the event to provide information to residents about fostering.

The team is using a vintage bus to travel around the town as part of its ‘Fostering on the Move’ campaign.

Advisory Cabinet member for Children and Young Peoples Services, Councillor Gordon Watson, said: “We are keen to recruit new foster carers to ensure that Rotherham children stay in Rotherham in local loving homes, close to things that matter to them most like, friends, families and school.

“By using the vintage bus and travelling into the heart of our communities throughout the borough we hope that many new foster carers come forward and get on board.”

Head of Service for Children in Care, Gary Pickles, said “Current foster carers and council staff will be on hand to assist potential carers and their families on the processes involved, as well as explaining the rewards and benefits of being part of the programme.”

The bus will be in Dinnington, Thurcroft and North Anston today.
