JOB seekers stepped up a gear in their search for new skills with a special visit.

The Marussia Formula 1 Team show car was on display at the Learn Direct office on Young Street, Sheffield, yesterday.

Unemployed young people learned how to boost their job prospects by improving their maths, English and IT skills or starting an apprenticeship.

They could get up close to the car, take home free merchandise and enter contests to win prizes, as well as posing with life-size pictures of drivers Timo Glock and Charles Pic.

Sally McMahon, area head of Learn Direct operations, said: “Hundreds of people have already got their qualifications in Sheffield through Learn Direct and bringing the Marussia F1 Team show car along hopefully means many more people will have talked to us about how they can learn new skills and improve their job prospects.”

The Pit Stop Tour is part of a partnership with the Marussia F1 Team through the 2012 season.

Both share the goal of using new technologies to help people take their skills up a gear.
