Former Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley footballer Ronnie Wallwork has avoided a jail sentence for stealing a car.

Wallwork, of Failsworth near Oldham, Greater Manchester, paid £22,000 but then stopped making payments for the Audi A4, having agreed a finance deal worth £40,000.

The company tried to get the car back but Wallwork ‘avoided contact’, Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

He was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work and £1,200 costs.
