The 33-year-old left Sheffield Wednesday in the summer and had been on trial with the Cod Army for the past few weeks.

Wallace scored for Town in the 3-1 Lancashire Senior Cup win over AFC Fylde on Tuesday and now boss Joey Barton has moved to secure the Scot on a permanent contract.

Wallace had joined Wednesday from Burnley on a free transfer in the summer of 2015 and went on to make 124 appearances, scoring 13 goals. The most notable came in the run to Wembley, during which the midfielder scored in both legs of the play-off semi-final win over Brighton.

'I'm absolutely delighted,' Wallace told the club's youtube channel. 'I've been training for a few weeks and the lads have been brilliant, welcoming me back into the group. Just delighted to get the opportunity.

He added: '(The trial) was about me having a look and the gaffer and his coaches having a look at me and obviously theyve seen ernough to think I can play a part this season.'

'We are delighted to bring a player of Ross' quality into our squad,' said Barton

'He has been with us for the last couple of weeks, and we are pleased to have fought off competition from numerous other clubs to secure his signature.'
