Carlos Carvalhal has revealed that he has turned down an approach to manage in his native Portugal, insisting that he wants to manage in England.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss left Hillsborough in December and almost immediately joined Swansea before seeing the club relegated from the Premier League, despite an encouraging start.

The short-term deal at the Liberty Stadium wasn't renewed and Carvalhal headed home to be with his family in Portugal.

Sporting Lisbon have offered the 52 year old the opportunity to manage again closer to home, but Carvalhal insists he wants to return to England where he says he turned down clubs due to family issues.

"Returning to England is my total priority," he told TV channel RTP.

"It hurt me a lot to refuse some proposals in England, but right now I must support my family. After September I will be available," Carvalhal added.
