Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal reveals his move to the Owls nearly didn't happen and hints where he wants to manage nextÂ

Before joining Wednesday for what would become a two-year stay at Hillsborough, Carvalhal held talks with Scottish side Rangers about the vacant managerial position, which was eventually handed to Mark Warburton.

Speaking to Jim White on Talksport, Carvalhal said: 'I came to London to talk to the people from Rangers at the same time as Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday came faster. I decided on Sheffield Wednesday.

'I was excited to talk to people from Rangers. If I was there I would be doing good work, I'm sure but they are in good hands now (with Steven Gerrard).'

During two seasons with the Owls, the Portuguese guided Wednesday to the Championship play-offs in successive seasons before leaving the club to take over at Premier League Swansea City.

After the Swans were relegated in May 2018, Carvalhal left the south Wales club, but it seems the 52-year-old is keen for a return to English football.

'(In the summer) I had some problems with the health of my father. Everything is perfect now. I am back in the market,' Carvalhal said.

'(England) is my total preference. It would take something very unusual to make me not work in England. It's not about money. I was offered big, big money.

'I am not a rich person, I had great economical proposals (from Saudi Arabia) but also from China, Russia, Turkey. It's not money, it's my career,' he added.

'I am not old, I have a project in my head. I want to show in England, we proved something at Swansea, I have unfinished work in the Premier League.'
