Former Sheffield University students’ union officer Sara Moon has set off on a marathon bike ride – cycling 5,000 miles to Israel to raise awareness of the Palestinian cause.

The 24-year-old geography and sociology graduate spent a year as union development officer, where she helped develop links between the union and the Islamic University of Gaza.

Sara said: “As a young Jewish woman this is a land I spent some time in growing up and learned about every day, a land I grew attached to and learned to feel a great deal of responsibility for.

“I can’t quite shake that responsibility off and so am off to find this land again, to see my friends, be a witness to the occupation and join in solidarity with those resisting it.

Sara is pictured with Palestinian activist Malaka Mohammed, who is set to become a union officer in June.
