Footballer represents country

HOMELESS Doncaster football star Kyle Hawthorne has come back to the town empty-handed.

Kyle was one of a squad of eight players selected to play for England in the Homeless World Cup in Copenhagen - but they were beaten to the title by Scotland.

The 19-year-old’s England side finished 29th out of 48 teams.

The former Balby Carr School pupil has been homeless since he was 16 and now lives at the Salvation Army Housing Association’s Doncaster Foyer centre on Chequer Road.

Richard Brown, England Team manager in the competition said: "Kyle, like all the other lads in this year's England Team, worked really hard on the pitch this year. Obviously they were disappointed at the final result, but they did their best and they had a brilliant experience in the process.

“Also, while off the pitch and mixing with other players from around the world, our England lads were always polite and well-mannered. They were great ambassadors for our country and they should be really proud of their achievements."

Kyle hopes to be a professional footballer one day.
