ROTHERHAM’S MP will be ‘championing’ park improvements when she accepts two cheques for funding that will provide a welcome boost for grassroots sport in the area.

Sarah Champion is receiving £55,542 grant from the Football Foundation, and a further £70,000 from Sport England to fund improvements to existing changing rooms at Barker’s Park.

Another cheque from the Football Foundation for £39,000 will also be presented for new pitch fencing at the Roughwood Road recreation ground, home to Greasbrough Youth Football Club, who have about 300 members with mini soccer teams through to adult teams.

Ms Champion is being presented the cheques on behalf of Rotherham Council and Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA.
