Football ace’s college call-up

A rising South Yorkshire football star has won a call-up for a national squad.

After battling it out with 40 other talented youngsters from around the country at trials, 16-year-old Frank Koromo is celebrating after successfully making the National College football team.

Frank, who studies on the BTEC Elite Football Development Programme, will represent the country at college football level as part of the English Colleges Football Association.

His call-up comes thanks to a sporting partnership between Sheffield Wednesday FC, Sheffield FC and Rotherham College.

Providing him with the chance to develop and build his skills on the pitch, the college programme also gives Frank the chance to gain international playing experience and training in a professional setting.

Joining his fellow 17 team mates for the first time on December 12, Frank headed to the state-of-the-art training facilities at the Etihad Campus, Manchester, where he took part in training at the home of Manchester City.

The team will jet off to Italy in February for the Roma Caput Mundi Tournament to take on other European college teams.

The course gives youngsters the opportunity to progress to a professional contract.

Ken Merry, associate principal at Rotherham College, said: “Frank is a highly driven student and the place on the national team is well deserved.”
