With the increasing threat of terrorism and public order disturbances police dogs are needed more than ever.

I agree with Neil Bowles’ recent article headlined Don’t ditch the police dog.

The purpose of the dogs are for searching for explosives, drugs, cash, missing people and criminals.

A dog’s scent receptors are thousands of times stronger than humans which enables them to search and detect far more effeciently .

Harry Morton and the team at South Yorkshire Police dog unit have done an exceptional job.

They have some of the best dogs in the country and now face the reality of having thier numbers reduced. The handlers and thier dogs make a great working partnership and we would be foolish to discard them.
