Food news: Big launch of Gino's book

Trulli Pugliese links the success of his family’s historic city scooter business with his rich Italian heritage.

It features more than 100 rustic and traditional recipes handed down from his grandparents and other relatives in Puglia, such as chickpea broth to fresh prawns and farfalle pasta.

The book, published by Melrose Books, will be launched on May 13 at the 60th anniversary of the historic family business Armando’s Scooters, on Randall Street near Bramall Lane.

Gino will be signing books from 10-1pm and there will then be a ass scooter ride from the shop around Sheffield.

He said: “These traditional recipes have been passed down through generations of the Pastorelli family.”

New head chef for the Arms

It’s all change at the Devonshire Arms at Beeley, which has welcomed a new head chef and menu.

Lewis Thornhill is bringing fresh inspirations to their AA rosette menus.

He is a self-taught chef who started his career late in life after working as a waiter to fund snowboarding trips, and eventually getting into the kitchen.

Lewis has worked at Hambleton Hall in Rutland among other restaurants, though this is his first head chef post, and his inspiration comes from fresh local produce presented as simply as possible.

The new menu includes soused mackerel with cucumber consomme and guinea fowl breast with wild garlic risotto. Lamb from the Chatsworth estate also features.
