A CHURCH in Sheffield has set up a food bank to help people living in poverty.
St Saviour’s, in High Green, is taking donations of food at its new community project, which opened recently in Greengate Lane.
Alongside the food bank, the centre will also be offering second-hand children’s clothing, crockery, furnishings and other basic items at reduced prices.
Canon Simon Bessant, the vicar of St Saviour’s, said: “Poverty is affecting both those who cannot find employment and those who are on low incomes.
“The aim is not to give hand-outs, but to help people in a crisis to survive until they can be given proper support. Many people are facing big cuts in benefits at a time when food and energy costs are rising.”
