Follow New York on graffiti measures

I understand Sheffield Council is running a campaign to try to reduce the amount of graffiti in Sheffield.

Well good luck to them.

Please take a look at the huge graffiti tag that has appeared on a building above roof height on a building in Fitzalan Square in the last few days or so.

Several feet high and in various colours.

It must have taken the vandal a couple of hours at least.

These criminals can and do get away with their despicable acts in Sheffield because no one is watching.

Were there no police around that area at night?

If they were driving past did they not look up?

The authorities here should take a leaf out of the New York Mayor of the seventies who understood that if small illegal acts were carried out with impunity, then worse acts would follow.

The New York Police Department made examples of ALL criminals, even if it was ‘only’ graffiti and serious crime dropped as a consequence.

Sheffield allows criminals to tag buildings at will and leads them to believe they are above the law.

At present they appear to be correct in this assumption.
