A fly-tipper was tracked down when waste inside the bags he dumped led the authorities to his door.
Mohammed Mushtaq, aged 51, of Balfour Road, Darnall, Sheffield, dumped two mattresses and bags of household waste in a field on Beighton Road, Woodhouse.
When the bags were checked, items inside them led Sheffield Council officials to Mushtaq.
He pleaded guilty to fly-tipping during a hearing at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £150 costs.
Coun Jack Scott, Sheffield Council cabinet member for environment, recycling and streetscene, said: “This case shows we will pull out all the stops to trace and prosecute those who contribute to spoiling our city.”
