Floodlight plan wins backing

PLANS to extend the operating hours of floodlights at an artificial turf football pitch in north Derbyshire have won the backing of planners.

North East Derbyshire Council has approved the application for the floodlights at Gosforth Fields, Stubley Drive, Dronfield, to be switched on until 9.30pm until March 31.

John Morris, Gosforth Fields Sports Association chairman, said the pitch is so popular with youngsters that they needed to extend the hours it can be used over winter.

Residents and Dronfield Town Council had objected on the grounds of nuisance through noise and light pollution.

Mr Morris said: “The extension of half an hour will allow us to start half an hour earlier and finish half an hour later, giving an extra hour each night to accommodate the training needs of the growing number of children’s teams.

“It is not to increase revenue as it is our own teams using the pitch, not outside hirers.”
