Three new blocks of flats catering for more than 400 students are set to be built on the edge of the city centre.

Proposals to demolish former office buildings and workshops on the corner of Scotland Street and Meadow Street, in the St Vincent’s quarter, are expected to be approved by city council planning committee members.

Developers want to put up six, seven and eight-storey buildings, offering 437 bed spaces in 53 cluster flats and 144 studio units.

The site has been partly vacant for 10 years and is currently occupied by a paintballing venue and a Chinese community centre, both on short-term leases.
