Flats visit for French officials

TOP safety officials from France have visited Sheffield to see a ground-breaking project where a sprinkler system has been fitted in high-rise flats.

Members of the French Interior Ministry and senior officers from Paris Fire & Rescue visited a tower block on Callow Mount, Gleadless Valley, to see how a water sprinkler system has been installed in an aging building which never had any automatic sprinklers when it was built.

Roger Brason, from South Yorkshire Fire Service’s community safety department, said: “It is encouraging to see this project is attracting international attention. Callow Mount is a UK first, but our French visitors were very interested to learn more about it, and they could now run a similar project.”
