With all the reports about bad care homes I wondered if you would highlight one of the good care homes.
My mum has been in Burnt Tree Croft residential home in Netherthorpe for three years and is in the advance stages of Alzheimer’s.
I go any time and any days to see her. She is spotlessly clean, well fed and in her own way is very content.
The residents are in the lounge most of the day. There is always music or TV on and most of them will be singing.
They have a hairdresser every week, a beautician, a chiropodist a dentist and an optician who come regularly.
There are different events all the time and there is an entertainment organiser who also takes them on outings in the minibus.
They also have a GP who visits every week as well as coming when called.
I don’t worry about mum when I go away, because I know that the staff are a good substitute for me.
Mum thinks of them as family as I do.
It is the hardest thing I have ever done but I know without doubt it was the right decision.
I know all the residents on mum’s floor and visit and chat with them.
The staff are brilliant and considerate and kind with both residents and relatives and seem to know all the residents by name.
I give Burnt Tree Croft five stars.
