Five injured in two-car crash in Rotherham

Five people were hurt as two cars crashed in Rotherham last night.

One man and four women were taken to hospital following the collision between an Audi A3 and a Vauxhall Corsa at around 8pm last night.

Firefighters were called to the scene to assist in cutting the injured people out of both vehicles.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said five ambulances, a hazardous area response team, a doctor and a clinical specialist were sent to the scene.

Two of the patients were taken to hospital in Rotherham, two to the Northern General in Sheffield and one to Leeds.

The spokesman said those involved in the crash had suffered a variety of injuries to legs, backs and chests.

No injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for several hours.
