Five events in Sheffield you must visit this weekend

ALL THE FEST: Sheffield heavyweight champions Reverend and the Makers headline a knockout line up of bands this weekend at 'last' Mosborough Music Festival.

At least it's the last one in Mosborough with new housing estate earmarked for former Westfield School site off Moss Way.

But festival boss Steve Cowens plans to expand the spectacle next year to Don Valley Bowl at the back of Sheffield Arena.

Past stars at the festival, celebrating its sixth year, include Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, who performed there for the first time after splitting from The Beautiful South.

Other notable performers have included Bad Manners, The Selector, The Farm, Twang, Lucy Spraggan, The Sherlocks and, in 2013, Reverend and the Makers - who return this year.

This year's festival - on Friday night and all day Saturday - features top drawer line-up performing on three stages, featuring Space, The Southmartins, Complete Madness, Jungle Lion, Redfaces and Doncaster high-flyers Bang Bang Romeo.

Also playing are Marquis Drive, Dirty Sterling, The Velcro Teddy Bears, The Shanklins, Phat Bollard, Tom Hingley, Bongo & the Soul Jar, Maybelleen, The Jackobins, Reasons to be Cheerful, James Lamb and Malarkey Affair.

There is extended capacity this year for over 3,000 people with Friday night show and on-site camping introduced for the first time.

APPLIANCE OF SCIENCE: Interactive science experiments and medieval re-enactments are part of the line-up at this year’s Wadsley Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

Wadsley Church also stages ballet performance from former Northern Ballet dancers, local history and graveyard tours, maze, art exhibition. workshops, stalls and live music.

HAVE WE GOT BREWS FOR YOU: Organisers of a popular brewing celebration, that last year attracted 10,000 visitors, are staging Dronfield’s Three Valleys Beer Festival.

Saturday's top of the pots showcase features free entry and free bus service linking venues to Dronfield railway station.

Venues new to the festival this year include Yew Tree at Coal Aston, The Horse & Jockey at Unstone, The Derby Tup, which is run by the brewer from Pigeon Fisher Brewery in Chesterfield, and Pioneer Club in Dronfield.

Buses will head from Mosborough, Totley, Bradway, Dore and Totley in Sheffield.

Outdoors real ale and cider bars, live entertainment and food will be on offer at pubs taking part with Dronfield Arms boasting craft keg caravan bar.

IN ON THE RE-ENACTMENT: Manor Lodge Discovery Centre big re-enactment event “History through the Ages” takes place for a second time on Saturday.

Experience living camps, Tudor cookery, displays, drills and much more as the venue brings to life sights and sounds of history all contained within the backdrop of 16th century Turret House and Manor Lodge ruins.

Highlights will be four performances in front of original turret house while at 12.30pm The Stanleys and The Nevilles will display armoured combat and children’s drills.

The Wincobank Brigantes are set to perform at 1.45pm, closely followed by English Civil War Society at 2pm, while 2.30pm will see - and hear - Coldstream Guards 1815 firing demonstrations of Brown Bess as well as children’s drills - visit www.sheffieldmanorlodge.org

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY: Our Cow Molly open farm at Hill Top Road, Dungworth, S6 6GW from 11am to 6pm on Sunday offers regular tours, showing visitors where cows are milked and milk is processed.
