Fishlake's title hopes are alive and kicking

FISHLAKE kept alive their chances of lifting the Pontefract League Division One championship for the third time in five years by crushing Old Sharlston.

Richard Copley (3-33), Paul Moores (2-10) and Nick Morley (2-33) routed Sharlston for 119.

In reply, David Johnson (76no) and Andy Edwards (39no) shared an unbroken 120-run stand as Fishlake coasted to a 10-wicket win that kept them 15 points behind leaders Streethouse who beat Conisbrough by 128 runs.

Chasing 257-9, Conisbrough were bowled out for 129, despite Lee Johnson’s 39.

Liam Stainthorpe was Conisbrough’s best bowler with 5-41.

Conisbrough are only three points ahead of bottom side Wombwell Main who ended their slump with a 59-run victory over Askern.

Luke Taverner (3-34 from nine overs) and Andrew Lunn (3-39 from 12) restricted Wombwell to 192-6 but the target was too high for Askern.

Andrew O’Grady and Dave Meggitt, who each made 27, were the only batsmen who made an impression as Askern were dismissed for 133 in reply.

Sprotbrough climbed to second in Division Two by toppling leaders Monk Bretton.

Ashley Ward hammered six sixes and nine fours in a whirlwind 127 as Sprotbrough racked up 266-4.

Ward shared a second-wicket stand of 155 with James Needham (74) and put on 73 for the third wicket with Tom Hunt (39).

In reply, Monk Bretton were bowled out for 164, with Karl Buxton finishing with figures of 4-22 after snapping up three wickets in his last over.

Sprotbrough are just one point behind Sandal who beat Thorne Colliery by 98 runs.

Replying to 224-4, Thorne managed only 126, despite a battling 41 by Chris Dyer.

Barnby Dun gave their chances of avoiding relegation a big boost with a nine-point haul against promotion hopefuls Darton.

Mark Nurse took 3-64 from 17 overs as Darton were limited to 207-7, replying to Barnby’s formidable 263-3 that featured a magnificent double century stand between Steve Barnes (121) and Chris Broughton (102).

In Division Three, Conisbrough A narrowly came out on top in a nail-biting finish against Streethouse A.

Kevin Haigh (72no) led Conisbrough to 192-7.

In reply, Streethouse looked handily placed when they needed 20 runs for victory off the last five overs with seven wickets standing.

However, Lee Roberts (2-60 from 23 overs) and Craig Jackson (3-47) applied the brakes as Streethouse fell narrowly short, closing on 189-6.

Sprotbrough A improved their chances of avoiding relegation in Division Four by beating Thorpe Audlin.

Andy Ward (43no) guided Sprotbrough to a seven-wicket victory after Ben Lyons (4-22) helped restrict Thorpe Audlin to 138.

Division Five promotion-chasers Bentley Colliery bounced back from the previous week’s defeat against leaders Featherstone by collecting maximum points against Upper Haugh A who were toppled for 134, replying to Bentley’s 145.
