First should help elderly

Yesterday we lost further local bus services in Doncaster, including 301 to 304 with the 59 also axed.

£8 million has been cut from the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport budget which subsidies around 20 per cent of local bus services.

Why can’t bus companies step in and pay or at least help to pay for routes such as the 59 which picks up many older/disabled people only three times a day six days a week.

The First Group’s revenue last year was £6,050.7 million and its adjusted attributable profit increased by 48.2 per cent.

It would be a small cost for First to help the local community by paying for the continuation of the 59 bus service.
