The 27-year-old fifth seed took his first title, having disposed of Vulcan’s Sarah Short, Lance Webster, Liam Rowson and Tim Denby (Abbeydale) in the semi final.

Stephen, seeded third, had arguably a tougher route to the final beating Rachel Pilgrim, Bill Grant, Ernest Mpundu and Warren Li Kim Wa in an epic semi final.

There was some consolation for Horsfield as he claimed his maiden veterans title with a win over defending champion Tim Dyson (Stocksbridge).

Abbeydale’s Isobel Ashley became a triple ladies singles champion, retaining her ladies crown by beating the seven time champion Sarah Short (Vulcan).
